It is about 20.5 light years from our earth. They estimated the planet's average temperature at between 0 and 40 degrees Centigrade. It is orbiting the red dwarf star, Gliese 581.

The process is not the road itself but the attitudes and feelings ,the caution, courage and persistance we have as we encounter new experience and unexpected obstacles. Take myself as an example, I changed my major when I became a postgraduate. After the choice,days have been harsh for me.I cannot understand the new lessons at all. For they are closely related to mathmatics which I learned nothing about before. However wuth the belief that this is the great chance for me to experience new ideas and challenge myself,I persisted. I asked for help from every channel and reorgonized my life. Gradually I could understand some parts and even found maths interesting.Moreover, I learned to act instead of complaining. In retrospect,the choice left no trace in my mind but the happiness and bitterness of the past four months becomes an unforgetable experience in my life. ms. ho and i became friends right in the first semester i was in that middle school. at the same time, i was having a really hard time with my subjects.

since i had just transferred from a bilingual school, where i had stayed for two months after arriving in the us, my english was

horrible; my average grade was below c. i almost thought it impossible to learn english. then, one day she told me she strongly believed that i was capable of controlling my life, and i would be just fine.

she said that she found we were much alike: both were stubborn, kind-hearted and a little bit ******-minded. she believed that i had the quality of be***ing wise.

she even said that she didn’t have any worries about me, about my not learning english. with her encouragement, i found the strength within myself and began to desire to work even harder. as a result, i soon proved her right, and at the end of the semester, i got a 3.

8 average grade. today, i still keep in touch with her, and she still tells me how she believes in me. sometimes, i’d think back, and wonder how i could handle all those things if it wasn’t for her encouragement and trust.

could i be the person i am today then, it struck me: what we need has always been trust and love of others; because these things inspire us to do our best, and to live our life to its fullest.

to sum up, i’d like to say to all of you: let us all appreciate trust and love of others and achieve our full potential in our life!

爱与信任

多年的学生生涯让我认识了很多老师，每个老师都不一样。但我最不能忘记的是一位来自西雅图我初中的华文双语老师。这位老师对我特别重要，因为她给我的不是我在课堂上能得到的。

直到今天，我仍然和何先生保持联系，她会告诉我她有多相信我的能力。有的时候，当我回想起往事时，我会想：假如没有这位老师在我身后鼓舞我，同时固执地一再告诉我我一定能行，今天的我，还会是那个模样吗面对种种困难，我自己会一直有勇气去面对吗一次次的回想，我终于发觉了：

as we all know, happiness is something that every person is chasing. i always try my best to find out what is the true meaning of happiness. and i think i got it last week.

it was an ordinary saturday morning. i felt a little tired because of the preparation for the mid-term e_ams. it was not long before my mother came in with a large bunch of white roses picked from the seller’s gardon.

not long ago, i read this story in a magazine: there was once a group of young people searching everywhere for pleasure but what they got was only annoyance , melancholy and torture.

so they turned to socrates for advice on where pleasure lay. but instead of giving any answers, socrates asked them to help with building a boat first. the group of guys had to set about the task, laying aside their own business of seeking pleasure.

it took them a long time to cut down a tall tree, gouging out the center. through painstaking effort, they made a canoe out of the tree. they launched the canoe into a river, and then rowed together in it, singing with joy.

socrates asked: my children, do you have pleasure now they answered in chorus: we couldn’t be happier!

socrates added, that’s it! whenever you are too busy pursuing something definite to notice anything bitter, pleasure will occur.

from the story i got to know that pleasure always hides behind every tiny thing that you are engaged in, and that you may only get pleasure through hard work and creativity.

it also tells us that we might have no alternative but to e_perience some pain in our daily life and in the process of seeking pleasure, or sometimes tend to look for pleasure in material things, like a new car, clothes, etc, but true long term pleasure ***es from within our soul and spirit. so why not turn suffering into praising life, and turn tears into the light in your heart, only in this way can we make it through and hold the magical spark to light the fire of life.

so my dear friends, just remember pleasure is a state of mind and a matter of choice, and i wish you all a life of pleasure.

i am tripping my elephant here

once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. as he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. he looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him.

quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. a sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: “hey, chicken!

watch out your leg, it’s out!” the ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: “ shi…i am going to trip that elephant.

”right now, i’m standing on this glamorous stage. but everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. around this time last year i was in nanjing ***peting in another speech contest.

that was the first time for me to be in such a large event. of course the pressure i was under was immense too. after a sleepless and stressful night, i went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs.

that speech turned out to be horrible. i don’t remember how i get down from there, but i do remember afterwards i just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover.

thanks to all the help i got from my special friends. my confidence was restored. after rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, i am here today.

from all that i’ve been through i’ve learned that a good future is based on a f***otten past, if i want my life to go on well i have to let go of my past failure. so today, with out fear, i am tripping my elephant again.

I wrote it because it’s a standard answer for a composition test. And I know if I wrote that I want to be a peasant I would be criticized and laughed at, no matter what reason I gave it. But now in university, one of my classmates changed my idea. 想到这里，我的心一阵难受，因为在我们的生活中，存在着种种不诚信现象，君不见，有人为了牟取暴利，给猪肉注水，用福尔马林浸泡海鲜，有人为了赚取更多的利润，就造假酒;卖假烟在我的身边，也有不诚信的现象，有同学使用拾获的同学的饭卡，有同学抄袭别人的作业，有同学在迟到登记中用别人的名字或谎称经老师批准，甚至有人盗用老师的名义上网，有部分同学考试作弊，以欺骗家长老师，如此种种，怎不令人寒心。

要知道，缺乏诚信是要付出代价的，是会受到惩罚的，是会受到社会谴责的。晋江假药使得了甲肝的上海人花钱买了怒气。晋江地区的财政收入连年滑坡。将本应喂猪的月饼馅用来生产月饼的南京冠生园被曝光后，没有谁敢买它的食品，最近只好申请破产。还有，我们学校上学期考试作弊的同学，也受到了处分。丧失诚信的教训还少吗?面对种种丧失诚信的现象，我要呼喊，归来吧，诚信!人们面对枯木，总是提倡环保，今天我也要呼吁一种精神上的环保：拯救自己，拯救诚信。

诚信，就是诚实守信。孔子云：言而无信，不知其可也。不管是什么人，只要他重视道德，讲究诚信，他就可以拥有幸福。

课间时分，教室里回响着同学们热络的交谈声。这时，我身旁传来了一个细小的声音，我循声望去，原来是一向默默无闻的黑子同学。他红着脸，双手不停地来回搓着自己的衣角，嘴里喃喃地说：“伟……杰……”我微笑地看着他。“我……想……向你……借本书……”“好啊，没问题。是哪一本呢?”他的脸更红了，“……《呼啸山庄》……”我干脆利落地将书递给了他，“我星期天一定还你。”他低着脸说了句就走了。

一转眼，周日到了。可是老天真不给力，仿佛要制造障碍似的，哗哗地下起了大雨。我望着窗外的瓢泼大雨，心想：黑子应该不会来了吧。这么大的雨，他不来，我也不会责怪他的，毕竟是特殊原因嘛。这么想着，我就打开了电视，看起了我最爱的节目来。正在我沉迷于百转千回的电视情节时，“咚咚咚”传来了一连串敲门的声音。是谁呀!雨还在不停地下，这时怎么会有人来呢?我带着满脑子的疑惑打开了房门。是他!是我的同学，黑子!只见他从头发一直到脚都湿透了，手里的雨伞已经湿得紧贴伞骨了，不断沿边流出的雨水仿佛在控诉着主人对自己的不呵护。他看到开门的是我，就从怀里掏出了用塑料袋一层又一层包裹着的那本《呼啸山庄》，我震撼了……

第二天上学，黑子的座位上空空如也。到了第三天，他，还是没有来。我想起了，昨天在我的百般挽留下也坚持要回家的他，还记得他说“我答应了我妈妈，还了书就立刻回家。”那样大的雨，他可能着凉了……

我想起了这样一个故事：有一个人，他经过不懈地努力，终于获得了“名誉”、“诚信”、“健康”、“财富”。就在他功成名就、荣归故里时，他来到了一条江边，这是他的必经之路，可船上的掌舵人却告诉他：船太小了，他必须要留下一样东西。万般无奈之下，他做出了选择：丢弃了重量最大的“诚信”。可当他上了岸之后发现，因为失去了诚信，人们都不愿意相信他了。

诚信是一朵兰花，它开在人们荒芜的心田;诚信是一杯浓茶，它让生活更加浓郁芳醇;诚信是一首劲歌，它奏响了时代的最强音;诚信是中华民族的美德，为人处事最基本的原则，有了它，人间处处是温情。诚信暖人心!

诚信是一种美德，是每一个人都应具备的美好的品质。然而在我们现实生活当中，不诚信的现象数不胜数。如卖水果的小贩、酿酒的工人等。有的制造商为了赚钱，往白酒里加入有毒的物质;有的工厂无论做什么，都偷工减料，任务都不完成，结果酿成大祸。还有的食品制作厂在制作的食品里放入有毒的原料，人们无意间吃到这些物质时，无意间就将这种有毒的材料留在自己的身体里，结果中毒身亡。

这是一种普遍现象，不讲诚信被人们看做司空见惯、理所当然的事;而讲诚信缺是微不足道的小事，根本不需要关注。可我不这么认为，我认为不讲诚信是每个人都不应该做的事情，而将诚信应该是每个人想做、都愿意做的事情。而现在的人似乎是以为是他们要做就是不讲诚信，而不要做的事情就是讲诚信，就成为了人人讨厌你、厌恶的事情，也没有人甘愿自己做这件事情。

诚是做人的根本，信是做人的核心。如果人们不讲诚信，那不就等于失去了自己最重要的东西吗?如果现在的社会不讲诚信，那还能叫做一个社会吗?如果每个人都不讲诚信，那么这个社会还有诚信吗?你们真的要这样做吗?你们心甘情愿地这么做吗?希望你们好好想一想，抛弃不诚信吧!

大家好！这天轮到我做课前三分钟的演讲。

《清稗类钞·敬信类》中记载了这样一个故事：一个叫蔡嶙的人向一位朋友借了一千两黄金，没打借条。不多年，朋友去世了，他就把朋友的儿子叫到家，把一千两黄金还给他。但朋友的儿子很惊愕，坚决不受，笑道：“没有这回事，父亲没有留给我借条，也没有口头告诉我有这事。”蔡嶙说：“借条就在我心里，不在纸上，心中的诚信才是根本，你父亲明白我是个讲诚信的人，才没有告诉你。他如此相信我，我又岂能失信呢”最后还是把黄金还给了他。该故事发人深思之处在于蔡嶙所言，借条、契约、合同等外在的法律性约束固然很重要，但人心中的诚信更重要。如果一个人没有诚信，没有道德上的“慎独”自律，就可能去钻外在的、法律的空子，甚至为了一己私利而置法律义务于不顾。

人们对道德规范的敬重，人们心目中的诚信、道德人格和做人的尊严，就是人们的道德信仰。道德是一种实践理性，它要解决的是“我就应怎样做”的问题。“我就应怎样做”包括两个方面：一是我就应怎样做事二是我就应怎样做人二者不可分割，后者比前者更根本，且要透过前者表现出来。道德信仰涉及这两个方面，但其核心是第二个方面。道德信仰是对道德理想目标的确认和笃信，是对怎样做人的设定，是对理想人格的设定。道德信仰以人格来证明或显示人性的神圣和尊严，显示人的价值。一种道德信仰的确立，代表着一个道德价值体系的构成，又是对人们的道德认知、道德情感、道德意志、道德人格、道德观念、道德动机的整合，从而将人们的各种关于道德的零散的信念和价值观念统一齐来，构成一个高低有序的道德价值观系统，成为规范一个人全部人生活动和行为选取的基本框架。整合一旦完成，作为一个价值系统整体，道德信仰又对道德生活的各个方面发挥重要的作用。

在中国传统文化中，“诚”十分接近道德信仰。孟子说：“诚者天之道也，思诚者人之道也。至诚而不动者，未之有也，不诚未有能动者也。”孟子所说的“诚”是真实无欺的意思。天是真实无欺的，人也就应追求真实无欺。到达至诚就能使人感动，达不到至诚就不能使人感动。荀子也重视“诚”，认为“诚”是所有德行的基础。他说：“君子养心莫善于诚，致诚则无它事矣。”把“诚”当作最重要的道德观念的是《中庸》。《中庸》说：“诚者，天之道也；诚之者，人之道也。诚者，不勉而中，不思而得，从容中道，圣人也。诚之者，择善而固执之者也。”可见，至诚是一种尽性知天并到达天人合一的崇高境界。这是中国特色的道德信仰，它不依靠宗教，不透过神学，而从人性与天性、人道与天道的合一，从相信人性善并透过尽性知天的途径，到达天人合一的理想的人生境界。

令人遗憾的是，在现实生活中，一些人经不起利益的诱惑，做出了很多伤天害理之事。出现这类现象的原因尽管是多方面的，但缺乏道德信仰是其中最普遍的原因。当前，在认真贯彻《公民道德建设实施纲要》中，在加强诚信教育中，我们应高度重视道德信仰的重要性。

那天，我和爸爸准备在草地上放风筝，正好旁边有一个卖风筝的店，店主是一位老大爷，看起来有六十多岁，满头银丝，一张脸上布满了皱纹，正拿着风筝招揽顾客，我和爸爸向店里走去，这时，来了向个外国人，店里人很多，几个最先到的外国人，向老大爷打着手势，老大爷伸出了个指头，表示3元，几个外国人拿出一大沓人民币，有100元的，50元，20元的，10元的，5元的，旁边的人叫老大爷拿100元的，几个外国人似乎听懂了，各给了老大爷300元，但老大爷把钱还给他们，只各拿了5元，并各找给他们2元，旁边的人问道：“老大爷，有这么多钱挣，你不想要吗?为什么不拿100元的?”老大爷说：“做生意要真诚，不能因为贪钱而多要钱，何况这是外国人，我们难道对待他们不真诚吗?”游客听了，连连叹赞着老大爷。

这件事虽然过去很多了，但仍使我记忆犹新，深有感触，真诚做人，因为这件让我知道对待别人要真诚。

扬子晚报曾经刊登过这样一则新闻，安徽滁州一位50多岁的农民工来到南京，在他打算回家时，发现口袋里差5元钱才能买得一张车票。在这座陌生的城市里，他举目无亲，万般无奈下，他向玄武区某民警借得了5元钱，在这种情况下谁也不会计较这5元钱，但在第二天，他却将这5元钱还给了那位民警。

同学们，这则故事没有曲折离奇的情节，但它流露的质朴，折射的诚信，却值得我们深思，它在拷问我们：难道我们真的应该视诚信如粪土，置诚信于不顾吗?随着市经济的发展，暴利取代了美德，诚信让步于欺骗，许多商家制假贩假，假烟、假酒、假奶粉这些都已经影响到了我们的生活，甚至已经危害了我们的健康。

诚信是耀眼璀璨的阳光，它的光芒普照着大地，诚信是广袤无垠的大地，它的胸怀承载万物。

同学们，让我们坚守诚信的阵地，让诚信之花在这片净土上，绚丽绽放，永不凋零。
