Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease, says the World Health Organisation.

According to their figures, it is responsible for approximately five million deaths worldwide every year.

Tobacco smoking is a known or probable cause of approximately 25 diseases, and even the WHO says that its impact on world health is not fully assessed.

Heart attack and stroke

UK studies show that smokers in their 30s and 40s are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers.

Tobacco contributes to the hardening of the arteries, which can then become blocked and starve the heart of bloodflow, causing the attack.

Often, smokers who develop this will require complex and risky heart bypass surgery.

If you smoke for a lifetime, there is a 50% chance that your eventual death will be smoking-related – half of all these deaths will be in middle age.

Smoking also increases the risk of having a stroke.

Lung problems

Another primary health risk associated with smoking are lung cancer, which kills more than 20,000 people in the UK every year.

US studies have shown that men who smoke increase their chances of dying from the disease by more than 22 times.

Women who smoke increase this risk by nearly 12 times.

Lung cancer is a difficult cancer to treat – long term survival rates are poor.

Smoking also increases the risk of oral, uterine, liver, kidney, bladder, stomach, and cervical cancers, and leukaemia.

Another health problem associated with tobacco is emphysema, which, when combined with chronic bronchitis, produces chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

he lung damage which causes emphysema is irreversible, and makes it extremely difficult to breathe.

Harm to children

Smoking in pregnancy greatly increases the risk of miscarriage, is associated with lower birthweight babies, and inhibited child development.

Smoking by parents following the birth is linked to sudden infant death syndrome, or cot death, and higher rates of infant respiratory illness, such as bronchitis, colds, and pneumonia.

Nicotine, an ingredient of tobacco, is listed as an addictive substance by the US authorities.

Although the health risks of smoking are culmulative, giving up can yield health benefits regardless of the age of the patient, or the length of time they have been smoking.

Future impact

By 20xx, the WHO expects the worldwide death toll to reach 10 million, causing 17.7% of all deaths in developed countries.

It is my pleasure to stand in front of you today to speak about motivation and inspiration. As we all know, life is a journey filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, and unforeseeable challenges that can leave us feeling lost and uncertain. But it is in these moments of difficulty that we must find the strength to push through and keep moving forward.

I believe that motivation and inspiration are essential factors that contribute to our success in life. We all have dreams and aspirations, but it is our ability to stay motivated and inspired that will ultimately determine whether or not we achieve them. So how do we find the motivation and inspiration that we need to succeed?

Firstly, it's important to have a strong sense of purpose. We must identify what it is that we truly want in life and believe that it's achievable. Once we have a clear vision of what we want to achieve, we can then set goals and work towards them consistently.

Secondly, we must be willing to put in the necessary work to achieve our goals. Success rarely comes easy, and it often requires a great deal of effort, dedication, and sacrifice. It's important to stay focused and disciplined, even when things get tough.

Thirdly, we should surround ourselves with positive influences. We become the sum of the people we spend the most time with, so it's important to surround ourselves with people who uplift and encourage us. This can be achieved by joining groups or communities that share similar interests or values.

Finally, it's important to stay resilient and persistent. We may encounter setbacks and obstacles along the way, but it's essential that we stay resilient and continue to push through. Success often requires multiple attempts, and it's important to keep trying until we achieve our goals.

In conclusion, motivation and inspiration are vital factors that contribute to our success in life. By having a strong sense of purpose, being willing to put in the necessary work, surrounding ourselves with positive influences, and staying resilient and persistent, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. You couldn‘t imagine one woman， deaf， dumb and blind， would live happily. For most of us， we would go to death rather than living if we couldn‘t listen， couldn‘t speak and couldn‘t look.

We are not brave enough to face such life. But Helen Keller did. As the most famous handicapped， though deaf， dumb and blind， she tried her best to let herself happy. She learnt to touch the world and learn writing with her fingers， then she could write her sentiments with imaginations and pens. I believe she must have one strong heart to face all the misfortunes.

Maybe misfortunes are given by God， but the life is made by ourselves. The heart decides the life. We are much luckier than Helen Keller. And no one wants you to be Helen Keller.

What I want to say in this Speech is living happily and smile to face all difficulties in your life. I believe it’s much easier than what Hellen Keller did.
